Team SG Show Mettle at the Asian Netball Championships to Finish 3rd

Team Singapore netballers put on a series of outstanding performances, emerging third at the Asian Netball Championships in Bangkok. The team which included two debutants put in performances walked through unbeaten in the group stages before losing to Sri Lanka in the Semi Final, and eventually beating Hong Kong 34 – 27 to finish 3rd.

Commenting on the results, National Coach, Ruth Aitken said, “I’m exceptionally proud of this team. They have certainly done the nation proud. The team consists of many young players, including debutants Ailin and Josephine, but along with the rest of the team they outperformed their more experienced opponents. Playing in the finals is going to be a wonderful experience for the team, and they’re going to come away stronger from it.”

“Throughout the week, we have played as a team and stuck to our style of play even when faced with stronger and more experienced opponents. Our Captain and MVP Vanessa led by example, and the team put up a tough fight. We are looking forward to playing again as a team and to better our match play.”

The Asian Netball Championships is the final major tournament for the team before the Mission Foods Nations Cup happening next month, in Singapore. The Singapore team will be playing against five other teams including the likes of Botswana and Papua New Guinea.

Early bird tickets for the 11th edition of the international netball game will be on sale till 31 August with prices starting at $3. The public also gets to enjoy up to 40% off passes like the Family Package and Season Pass during the early bird ticket sales period.
