The World University Netball Championships (WUNC) is organized once every two years. This year’s WUNC is the 3rd edition and is held in Uganda.
The WUNC2018 is extra special as it’s the first time that Singapore is participating and competing in a round robin format amongst 6 other countries, Uganda, USA, Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Sri Lanka. The tournament was played in Kampala Uganda from 17th – 21st September.
The team consisted of university students from the various universities of National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapre Institute of Management and Singapore University of Social Sciences
With assistance, guidance and support from the National Youth Sports Institute, the team has been training hard since February 2018. Arriving as underdogs to the competition, the team faced challenging opponents such as previous champions, South Africa and crowd favorite, Uganda.
Singapore won their opening match against Kenya, 39-38 with a solitary goal. They then proceeded to win against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka with the score lines of 45 – 40 and 62 – 37 respectively. They lost the games against South Africa and host Uganda. Despite losing to USA 37-41, Singapore won third due to goal average.
The tournament ended with a nail-biting finals match between South Africa and Uganda with the latter winning the 2018 Championships.

Netball Singapore is the national body for netball in Singapore. Established in 1962, it has become a professionally run National Sport Association today.
