SUMMARY:M1 School Challenge League 2011
DESCRIPTION:The M1 SCL was started in 2006 with the intention of providing more competition time for schools who failed to qualify for the National Inter-Schools Netball Championships. Many of these schools trained for a whole year only to get to play 3 games in the Zonal Championships. The M1 SCL gives these schools an opportunity to play more games\, against more schools of a similar standard\, and across the 4 zones. \nLeague Information\nDates: 21 February – 26 May 2011 (Tier 1) 21 March – 26 May 2011 (Tier 2) \nPlayoffs (for Tier 1 B & C Div only):26 May 2011\, Thursday. 1.00PM. Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex \nClosing Date of Registration:9 February 2011\, Wednesday. 5.00PM (Tier 1)9 March 2011\, Wednesday. 5.00PM (Tier 2) \nFormat of Play:– Teams will be grouped (cross-zones).– Divisions with more than 1 grouping will have 2nd round.– The Round Robin Format will be used.– 4 quarters of 10 mins for all matches.– 2nd round to be determined after 1st round. \n\nResults\n‘B’ Division St. Nicholas Girls Secondary School 35 – 16 St. Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School \nSt. Nicholas Girls edged out St. Anthony’s Canossian. As soon as the game got underway\, the difference in class showed. In the 1st quarter\, St. Nicholas Girls took a 12-3 lead which increased further to 19-9 at the halfway mark. When the 3rd quarter recommenced\, the SNG girls went all out to narrow the score with some nice attacking play to lead 27-12. When the final whistle was blown\, the score read 35-16. \n \n‘C’ Division Yuan Ching Secondary School 45 – 27 Yusof Ishak Secondary School \nYuan Ching netballers dominate Yusof Ishak 45-27. Yuan Ching started well in the first quarter and created a couple of turnovers to lead 11-8. The second quarter saw Yuan Ching’s Goal Attack did the business at her end of the court. Her physical presence in the semi-circle allowed her to collect lobs and to give Yusof Ishak the 21-16 lead at the half. When play resumed in the 3rd quarter\, Yuan Ching started with a rather fast counterattack that gave them a point\, 31-22. In the 4th quarter there was absolutely no way back for Yusof Ishak as soon as the game got underway again\, taking the final score and match to 45-27. \nCompliments to St. Nicholas Girls Secondary School and Yuan Ching Secondary School for winning in their respective divisions! \n \n‘B’ Division 2011 Champions – St. Nicholas Girls Secondary School \n \n‘C’ Division 2011 Champions – Yuan Ching Secondary School \n \nLeft to Right: Mr Cyrus Medora\, Executive Director Netball Singapore with Miss Chong Yi Ting from M1 Limited enjoying the ‘B’ Division girls at play at Republic Polytechnic. \n  \nSpecial thanks to Miss Chong Yi Ting\, from M1 Limited for taking the time out of her busy schedules to grace us with her presence on 26th of May as the Guest of Honour for M1 Schools Challenge League 2011 at Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex. member of the national training squad for the WNC 2011 in Singapore. She has also represented the Suva district at the National Championship; where she plays club netball for the Fiji Sports Council team. Last year\, Unisi played a pivotal role as Goal Shooter and Goal Attack for Suva in the final against the Nasinu district side during the Crest Chicken National Netball Championship. Unisi\, as she is commonly known\, started playing netball at the age of eight and has never looked back. The 22-year-old is looking forward to playing in the Singapore Netball League; and hopes to use this experience to develop her skills in the sport. Unisi will play for BB Kings Vipers. \nJELOMA Whippy (Fiji) 18\, was discovered playing Goal Shooter for St John’s College during the Crest Chicken National secondary school competition in 2010. She was drafted into the national training squad for the WNC 2011 in Singapore; and initially had to conduct her own training – as her college is in a smaller island of Suva\, the capital of Fiji. Fresh out of school\, Jeloma admits that Netball is her one and only love. So much so that she has decided to defer her studies to play in the Singapore Netball League for five-eight weeks. Although\, she has recently started getting serious about the sport\, Jeloma aims to be a crucial member of the team in the next WNC. Jeloma usually play Goal Attack. Jeloma will play for Mighty Mannas. \nJacqueline Sikozi (Tanzania) is the current captain of the Tanzania National Team at the young age of 23. She is one of the highest capped players of the current team having played 21 times for her country including the 2010 African regional qualifiers and the Nations Cup in Singapore in both 2009/10. She has 18 international caps appearing at the 2010 African regional qualifiers and the Nations Cup in Singapore in 2009/10.
