Name:  Lin Qingyi (Micky)
Positions:  GK/GD
Age:  26
Caps: 49

When did you start playing netball?

[Micky] I picked up netball in Primary School when I was 9. Started off as a midfielder (C, WA) and only switching to playing defence in Polytechnic.
P.S. I once trialed for U17 age group as a midfielder but did not get selected, obviously that’s not my forte.

Why did you choose netball over other sports?

[Micky] I participated in an inter-class Captain’s Ball competition and enjoyed it. I was due to pick a CCA (Co-Curriculum Activity) and Netball was the closest sport available.

What is the best thing about playing netball?

[Micky] The game itself and people involved – teammates, officials and support staff.

What is the worst thing about playing netball?

[Micky] Injuries. I am known for being the most injury prone player in the team -  from ankle sprains to concussion and metacarpals fracture. The toughest thing for any player is to be taken out by an injury after all the effort put into preparation for a competition.

Tips: Although unavoidable, injury prevention such as taping and strengthening exercise in gym helps minimize the likelihood and seriousness of injuries.

How many caps do you have?

 [Micky] 49

What do you remember about your 1st cap?

[Micky] My 1st cap was played against Papua New Guinea in 2005. I was invited by Kate Carpenter to join the Opens team in replacement of a injured player just weeks before the test series. I can’t remember the game in detail except that I was up against a GS twice my size.

What has been your biggest achievement in the sport?

[Micky] Being part of the team that played in World Championship 2011 held right here in Singapore.

How would you encourage people to get into the sport?

[Micky] Get them to watch a game of competitive netball. I believe the game will speak for itself.

What motivates you to keep playing?

[Micky] For all “the best thing about playing netball” I answered in question 3 - enjoyment of the game and people involved.

If you had a Twitter account - how would you describe yourself on your profile?

[Micky] Don’t follow me, I am lost too..
