:: Li Ling Retires18-07-2011

Li Ling has announced her retirement from both domestic and international netball just days following the completion of the Mission Foods World Netball Championship. Ling has been plagued by recurring knee injuries over the course of her career that has ultimately forced her retirement.

Ling joined netball in 2005 as Netball Singapore’s first professional athlete.  She represented Singapore from 2005 – 2011 playing a total 56 times for the Nation including two World Championships, two Asian Championships and the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Standing at 188cm Ling brought height and mobility to the Singapore shooting circle in her preferred playing position of goal attack. She describes the 2007 Nations Cup where Singapore defeated Trinidad and Tobago in the final as a highlight of her playing career.

“I've enjoyed every moment of netball. I was so lucky to be part of the Opens Team and be supported by Netball Singapore. It’s hard to give up the sport you love but I plan to still contribute in different ways, to share my knowledge and experience.”
