Accolades for Our Aspiring Young Umpires

Congratulations to the following Netball Singapore Squad Umpires who were awarded B and A badges at NSL last weekend:
Jasmin Yeo A badge
Dewi Afiza A badge
Joan Yani Abdullah B badge
Tabitha Si Yen Samuel B badge
We had the privilege of hosting Chris Burton, Netball Australia National Umpiring Director and Asian Regional Umpiring Coordinator, who provided some valuable training for all of our NSL squad umpires and Umpire Coaches. She also worked with our Umpire Advisory Group to ensure that our national umpiring accreditation and pathways are aligned with the recently developed Netball Asia Umpire Development Framework.
However, the main purpose of Chris Burton’s visit was to observe and provide feedback to our NSL Umpire’s so that they could work towards their next badge level. Whilst we anticipated that some B badges could be awarded, it was a complete surprise to have the required standard of game at NSL to in fact test for an A badge. Both Jasmin and Dewi umpired a tightly contested and physical match so brilliantly that they were able to move from their current C badge straight to an A badge. Chris Burton commented,
“... it was exciting to see the standard and variety of play in the Singapore Netball Super League, which was further enhanced by the inclusion of a foreign player in each team. Each of the games were well contested with some spectacular and very different netball skills on display. However, just as exciting was the standard of the umpiring in fitness, umpiring techniques and application of the rules. The awarding of the badges is a compliment to the hard work of the umpires and their coaches, well supported by Netball Singapore and Singapore Sports Council funding. I was pleased to be a part of such a rewarding couple of days”.
We will be looking to provide some international exposure for our talented young umpires and will work with Chris Burton in regards to suitable umpiring allocations at State and National level within Australia.
