:: 'A' Division 2011 Champs27-05-2011

On the 25th of May, Jurong East Sports Hall played host to the SSSC National Inter-school ‘A’ Division Netball Championships 2011. Mr Marvin Chan from the Co-curricular Activities Branch (Sports) (CCAB) was the Guest of Honour.

The 3rd & 4th placing match was between Hwa Chong Institution and St. Andrew’s Junior College. At the end of the 1st quarter, Hwa Chong Institution held a comfortable 6 point lead and later extended their lead to 11 points by the 2nd quarter, making the score 30-19.  St. Andrew’s Junior College pegged back a few goals but still found themselves chasing Hwa Chong Institution and by the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was 42-28 to Hwa Chong Institution. A tensed 4th quarter saw Hwa Chong Institution and St. Andrew’s Junior College score 16 and 11 goals respectively, ending the game with a score of 58-39.

The grand final was a far more exciting fixture which featured players from Anglo-Chinese Junior College and Raffles Institution, the traditional powerhouses of the competition.  The 1st quarter saw the match tie at 10-10, while the gap widened slightly to 4 goals in the second quarter to ACJC. ACJC managed to stretch their lead by one more goal, making the score at the end of the 3rd quarter 30-25. The score was again tied to 38-38, forcing the game into extra time. RI had their mascot cheering their team on which ACJC had their wild and loud cheerleaders. The first half of extra time ended with the score at 42-39 and although RI scored a few goals to close the gap, the game eventually ended 44-42, and this was greeted by ACJC’s wild crowd.
